Support in the Northern Israel region
The HGF provides limited funding in Afula and in the Gilboa region primarily for the Ha'emek Medical Center and Emek Yezreel College. The HGF has previously supported organizations that promote Jewish pluralism throughout the country.
The PJ Library in Israel-Sifriyat Pijama
An Israeli version of The PJ Library launched in 2009 to address both the issue of education in Jewish values in Israel and to encourage literacy. Called Sifriyat Pijama (Pajama Library in Hebrew), the program currently gifts Hebrew language books each month to more than 3,000 kindergarteners in over 100 Israeli schools.
The books are distributed to residents in schools throughout Israel as well as to kindergartens in the TALI (Enhanced Judaism Studies) school network. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, teachers in participating schools take part in peer study groups aimed at assuring teachers are knowledgeable about the Jewish view on the values in the books and have an opportunity to brainstorm together on how to integrate the gifted books in both school and home.
HGF is seeking funding and community partners to expand Sifriyat Pijama. Inquiries regarding Sifriyat Pijama and the operations of the foundation in Israel can be directed to Galina Vromen, Director of Israel programs and grants at galina@hgf.org.
