Director, JCamp 180 Program

The Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) is seeking a Director to lead JCamp 180, one of the Foundation’s flagship programs.

JCamp 180 significantly enhances the long-term effectiveness of non-profit Jewish camps that engage young people in transformative Jewish cultural and educational experiences. This innovative program works with camps to ensure they have the resources and tools they need by:  
  • Developing and implementing visionary strategic plans
  • Creating and sustaining vibrant leadership
  • Focusing and strengthening fundraising activities
  • Utilizing the power of technology to support their mission
  • Providing matching grants
Over the past decade, JCamp 180 grants of over $16 million have helped 113 camps leverage over $85 million in direct gifts and $75 million in endowments through the JCamp 180 Legacy Program. With the assistance of JCamp 180 consultants, these camps have additionally raised more than $240 million.

Position Overview

The Director leads a talented group of consultants and specialists and oversees the design and implementation of an ever-evolving range of services to an ever-growing number of Jewish camps. JCamp 180 currently serves 90 overnight and 25 day camps and sees them as both clients and partners, providing them with the following services:
  • Provide one-on-one consulting in fundraising, strategic planning, and board development
  • Oversee the funding of multiple challenge grant matches each year
  • Deliver professional development programs in fundraising, enrollment, technology, and governance through a combination of online and in-person formats
  • Host an annual conference of over 450 camping professionals and lay leaders, featuring expert and peer-led sessions, sector-wide recognition awards, and specialized training tracks
  • Offer many other programs, including coaching camp leaders, operating an online resource center, facilitating camp exchanges, and training camp professionals in financial literacy
The Director is also responsible for:
  • Continually adding, enriching, and improving JCamp 180’s services
  • Managing a group of talented consultants and staff
  • Raising the profile of JCamp 180 in the field of Jewish camping
  • Maintaining relationships with the many national organizations active in Jewish camping
  • Managing the budget (approximately $2.7 million per year) and preparing financial analyses of the program
  • Overseeing program intake and evaluation processes
  • Publicizing JCamp 180 programs and achievements
  • Preparing and delivering reports to the HGF Board of Trustees
  • Serving on the HGF management team and as an ambassador for HGF


This position is located at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation home office in Agawam, which is in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. Some travel is required, with the majority of travel occurring in the summer to visit camps.


The Director reports to Winnie Sandler Grinspoon, President of the Foundation, and also works with its founder, Harold Grinspoon.

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful candidate has a track record of success in at least one of the following areas and a working knowledge of the others: fundraising, board governance, and strategic planning. S/he should have proven ability in consulting and managing a group of professionals. S/he has or can quickly establish credibility with camps. Strong analytic and oral and written communication skills are essential. Experience with and passion for Jewish communal life as a professional or volunteer is desirable.
