Director of Advancement Operations

The Harold Grinspoon Foundation, located in Agawam, MA, is seeking a development savvy, entrepreneurial-minded Director of Advancement Operations in the Advancement Department of its flagship program, PJ Library®. This new position is designed to support the growing need for fundraising in the United States, Canada, and around the world.

That’s why we are seeking a development savvy, entrepreneurial-minded Director of Advancement Operations to lead operations for the Advancement Team at the Foundation.
 

About the Opportunity

Expansive growth nationally and internationally of the Foundation’s flagship program, the PJ Library, has created the need for this newly created leadership position to support department operations and assist the Director of Advancement. The Advancement Team is comprised of a dynamic, dedicated and talented staff of fourteen members and is responsible for directly and indirectly raising more than $10 million every year. As the size and complexity of PJ Library has grown around the world, the need for this new role has emerged. The key role of the Director of Advancement Operations will be to ensure that the entire Advancement Team is functioning at the highest level of effectiveness. Four of the department’s fourteen members will report directly into the Director of Advancement Services. We are seeking an experienced development professional who is capable of hitting the ground running providing ideas, suggestions and leadership to increase effectiveness and achieve even greater fundraising results.
 
The Director of Advancement Operations will support the department’s national and international fundraising strategy as well as coordinate department functions including database and list management, prospect moves management, reporting, and donor research. While primarily responsible for day-to-day advancement operations, The Director of Advancement Operations will also have the opportunity to assist in fundraising in the United States and Canada.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leadership
    • Responsible for the effective functioning of the department including supervising and developing team members. Collaborate across the department and organization to ensure proposals, reports, and other development projects are successfully completed. 
  • Data management
    • Management of development data including the policies and procedures of our NXT database, the gift entry process and procedure, the way information is moved into and out of NXT to other related systems, and our moves management and prospect tracking and stewardship.
    • Additionally, work with team to improve moves management so the front facing fundraising team can meet more prospects and close more gifts.
  • Grant Management
    • Lead a team which manages more than 200 grants and grant opportunities annually.
    • Oversee the life cycle of a grant from proposal through reporting and payment.
    • Ensure that proposals, reports, and payments are well-written, and information is easily available.
    • Develop systems to support a tripling of the number of grants PJ Library receives and manages.
  • Overall:
    • Monitor and enhance systems. Improve PJ Library's fundraising operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, nonprofit or business-related focus a plus
  • 5 plus years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant writing, sales or relevant experience, including event management, and donor engagement; development operations experience a plus
  • Prior experience managing a staff
  • Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail, and strong follow-through
  • Ability to prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects and concurrent communication threads
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, including Excel
