The Prospect Manager will manage the Foundation’s prospect research and assignment processes, as well as ensure prospects are moving meaningfully from identification through stewardship. The right individual will have a strong understanding of the moves management process as well as an appreciation for the role prospect management plays in establishing relationships and securing major gifts.
Responsibilities
- Establish and implement a regular refresh protocol to ensure portfolios remain current, relevant and manageable; create systems to identify and place strong prospects into fundraiser portfolios as well as manage the regular disqualification process
- Guide and reinforce the moves management process at PJ Library by leading frequent meetings with fundraisers to assign new prospects, match prospect interests to fundraising priorities, and drive prospect strategy
- Regularly track progress towards fundraising goals and adjust prospect strategy as needed to match donor interests and fulfill PJ Library funding priorities
- Participate in relevant fundraising leadership conversations to ensure goals are supported by reasonable prospect pools and projected asks; manage an up-to-date table of gifts reflecting all outstanding or upcoming asks
- Develop and implement processes for prospect research requests; perform research on top donors and prospects to assess capacity, philanthropic inclinations and connections
- Regularly monitor public activity of top prospects; share relevant information with fundraisers to advance efforts to forge meaningful relationships
- Regularly monitor and analyze wealth screening results to identify viable prospects for major gifts and advancement portfolios
- Remain apprised of industry trends to ensure that the Foundation is utilizing best practices to achieve organizational goals; evaluate and recommend the purchase and/or renewal of prospect research and management resources to the Director of Fundraising and Community Advancement
- Coordinate with the Development Services Manager to maintain a comprehensive major gift pipeline in NXT and regularly evaluate dashboards and pipeline reports; ensure advancement staff are appropriately and effectively logging prospect actions
- Maintain a comprehensive and working knowledge of the NXT database; understand when and how to pull relevant information from other Foundation databases
- Other tasks and duties reasonably related to job responsibilities as necessary
Skills and/or Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising; substantial professional experience or demonstrated academic success in performing research activities
- An appreciation for major gift fundraising and the critical role of research in the fundraising process; familiarity with the moves management process and prospect management best practices
- Collaborative member of the staff team with an ability to influence decision-making to drive successful prospect management
- Excellent organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to manage several projects and priorities at once
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel); experience with Blackbaud’s NXT preferred
- Sensitive to highly confidential information; an excellent degree of discretion
