Applying for a Local Farmer Award

Applications for the Local Farmer Awards are open until the end of January. Applications are reviewed in February; farmers hear from the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation in March about the decisions. Checks are issued in late March.

Applications are accepted each January.  They are then reviewed and processed.  Decisions are shared with applicants in mid-March with checks issued in early April or two weeks before the start of the project.

The award requirements are:

  • Farm must be a member of Berkshire Grown or CISA (Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture)
  • Farm must have total annual sales of $10,000 or above
  • Awards can be used for physical infrastructure improvements:  Equipment and Farm Operations
  • Awards cannot be used for hiring staff, marketing, livestock, or debt
  • Recipients must submit a final report, with receipts describing the project
