Position Overview
The Harold Grinspoon Foundation, a fast-paced, entrepreneurial non-profit organization, is looking for a Graphic Designer to work across the Books and Marketing departments for the Foundation’s flagship program, PJ Library®. Primary duties are to transform design files for children’s books – including book covers, interiors, and book flaps – from one language to another. This full-time position will be hybrid in the Agawam, MA office reporting to the Senior Graphic Designer, HGF.
Candidates for this position should possess demonstrated graphic design skills, the ability to manage a highly iterative design process with multiple stakeholders, and a high attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Design for Book Translations/Design File Management (90%)
- Adapt book covers, flaps, and interiors for PJ Library picture book translations, ensuring aesthetic meets our high standard and appeals to target audience
- Prepare files to printer specifications for each translated edition
- Organize and manage multiple projects per season, adhering to fast-paced production deadlines
- Review and manage incoming design files for translations to ensure they are in the correct format, set up to printer specifications, and filed correctly
- Manage and maintain the PJ Library and PJ Our Way book design file library so it is accessible by Foundation staff
Other Design Work (10%)
- Design new print and web collateral based on brand standards
- Make edits to existing design files
- Convert designs into print-ready and web files
- Light photo editing
Qualifications
- Superior graphic design skills for print
- 2 to 3 years of graphic design experience
- Experience with print-based design production needed
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
- Strong graphic design portfolio
- Highly attentive to detail and caring deeply about quality
- Highly organized
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and perform under tight deadlines
- Thrives in a highly iterative and fast-paced environment
- Ability to function well as a member of a collaborative team
- Illustration skill a plus
- Hand lettering skills a plus
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, concentrating, and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Location
This position is based out of the home office in Agawam, Massachusetts, that requires in-office work 60% of the time.
Compensation
$55,000 - $65,000 annually commensurate with experience
