JCamp 180, a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, ensures affiliated Jewish camps thrive and endure. Through grants, consulting, and education/training including an annual conference and professional development programs, we build the capacity of Jewish camps to operate more effectively and successfully.  We help camps develop strong governing boards, create strategic plans, and guide fundraising. We currently work with more than 110 Jewish overnight camps and nearly 30 day camps across North America. 

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of JCamp 180, the Program Associate will support multiple functions within a busy and evolving department. The position will primarily support key operational areas:

  1. Consulting Practice (40%) – manage the operational systems that support the effective delivery of consulting services to our nonprofit camp clients;  
  2. Knowledge Center, Tools & Resources (20%) – develop, update and communicate tools, templates, toolkits and resources located in an online repository to support our clients;
  3. Affiliation status (10%)– manage the onboarding process for new camps; track inquiries; facilitate interview process; facilitate assignment to Relationship Managers;
  4. Grant program implementation (20%)– shepherd development of rules; develop and manage competitive grant process; manage grant review teams; communicate timelines to grantees; serve as ombudsperson to Grants Department;
  5. Other (10%)– support JCamp 180 activities including annual conference, webinars, and trainings with technology, periodic mailing and other events, along with other administrative and logistical support, as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

Consulting Practice. The position will assure JCamp 180 activities achieve high standards in communications, service delivery and customer service.  The associate will provide the operational backbone of JCamp 180’s retooled consulting practice which offers consulting services in organizational development (strategic planning, governance and fundraising) to affiliated JCamp 180 clients: overnight and day camps.  This position will manage requests for consulting, support making assignments to consultants and oversee the development of scopes of work, monitor progress, and implement and analyze post-engagement evaluation. The associate will manage a regular Consulting Practice meeting and will develop specialized Consulting reports in a CRM to manage pipeline and monitor team compliance with CRM tools.  All consulting services are offered free of charge to our clients as part of affiliation with JCamp 180.

  • Refine intake process for consulting practice including online application
  • Manage inquiries and intake of consulting practice requests
  • Shepherd clients through contracting for services and onboarding phase
  • Monitor progress on consulting contracts through a master tracking system and regular reporting
  • Create tool to monitor staff capacity to meet consulting needs
  • Develop marketing materials and web content on consulting practice services, case studies and impact
  • Administer evaluation tools and develop evaluation report to assess satisfaction and effectiveness of consulting service(s)
  • Manage regular Consulting Practice meeting and develop pipeline report

Knowledge Center, Tools & Resources. JCamp 180 maintains a deep repository of online resources that are available free of charge to our clients and other field stakeholders.  Working with a senior advisor, the associate will curate these tools, keep items up to date and select resources to highlight and showcase in JCamp 180 communications.  The associate will also collect new resources and project management development of new tools and resources and collect and monitor analytic data on usage.

Affiliation status. JCamp 180 works with a client base of overnight and day camps who are “affiliated” and have gone through a vetting process with JCamp 180.  From time to time, JCamp 180 welcomes new camps into its portfolio of camps.  This position would coordinate the application, selection and review process and coordinate the onboarding of new camps and the supports that they receive from our team.

Grant coordination. JCamp 180 offers several grantmaking opportunities to camps.  The associate would coordinate the development and updating of rules, manage the marketing of the grants and the application process, in collaboration with colleagues in the grants department.  This position would monitor timelines and reporting requirements related to the various grant programs.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a project management background, attention to detail and experience with consulting service delivery to clients.   The candidate should have a deep interest and curiosity in organization development issues, nonprofit consulting, and philanthropy. The candidate should have 5-7 years of experience in one of these areas.  A candidate with a connection to camping, Jewish camping especially, and/or the professional Jewish communal world is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred (Jewish communal work, nonprofit management, policy, etc.) 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Ability to develop and implement creative and effective strategies 
  • Curiosity about organizational development, evaluation and philanthropy
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Docs, as well as Slack
  • Proficient in databases such as Salesforce and project management tools such as Wrike and Trello, AirTable as well as aptitude to learn new online tools as they become relevant
  • Ability to think creatively and be a key contributor
  • Demonstrated experience in consulting to nonprofit organizations, program management, or professional development training
  • Some travel required.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

This position is based out of the home office in Agawam, Massachusetts.

Salary: 45,000 - 55,000
