Jewish Family Camps


The Jewish Family Camping Grant encourages Jewish families to have an immersive Jewish experience. It allows for local families to engage with other Jewish families and benefit from the fun of Jewish camp.

 

Who qualifies?

To be eligible for the Jewish Family Camping Grant the family must be
  • Residents of Western Massachusetts (413 area code) or Southern Vermont (Bennington and Windham counties)
  • Jewish
  • Attending family camp for a minimum for two days

What types of camp qualify?

For a camp to qualify it must

EITHER be approved by one of the four major Jewish movements (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist or Renewal) or sponsored by a nonprofit Jewish organization or school.

OR publicly advertise itself as a Jewish family camp and meet two or more of the following criteria. The camp must
 
  • Provide Shabbat services on Friday night and/or Saturday morning
  • Offer programs of Jewish content such as: cultural programs, Torah, Hebrew, or Israel awareness
  • Follow kosher dietary laws or provide kosher meals upon request
  • Camp program must already be established. Local organizations are not eligible and cannot organize family programs to receive this grant.

*Please note that camp weekends hosted by synagogues or schools do not qualify for this grant.

What funding is available?

A family can apply for up to 50% of the cost of the program not to exceed $500 per family.

Program costs include:

  • Registration for all family members
  • Standard accommodations (the Harold Grinspoon Foundation will not pay for any deluxe or luxury accommodations at camp) 

How do I receive funding? 

Completed applications must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of camp. Late applications will not be accepted.

If approved for a Jewish Family Camp Grant, a check will be made out to both the applicant and the camp. The check will be mailed to the family’s permanent address, and the applicant must endorse the check. The family is then responsible for forwarding the check to the camp.
