An immersive Jewish camp experience is one way for families to bond and experience Jewish life together. Families can rekindle the Jewish spirit as they enjoy song, stories, and rituals – all alongside new Jewish family friends.
The Jewish Family Camp Grant encourages local families to engage with other Jewish families and benefit from the fun of Jewish camp.
Who qualifies?
To be eligible for the Jewish Family Camping Grant the family must be
- Residents of Western Massachusetts (Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties) or Southern Vermont (Bennington and Windham counties)
- Jewish
- Attending family camp for a minimum for two days
What types of camp qualify?
For a camp to qualify it must have a tax status as a 501(c)(3) public charity and
EITHER be approved by one of the five major Jewish movements (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist or Renewal) or sponsored by a nonprofit Jewish organization or school.
OR publicly advertise itself as a Jewish family camp and meet
two or more of the following criteria. The camp must
- Provide Shabbat services on Friday night and/or Saturday morning
- Offer programs of Jewish content, such as cultural programs, Torah, Hebrew, or Israel awareness
- Follow kosher dietary laws or provide kosher meals upon request
*Please note that camp weekends hosted by synagogues or schools do not qualify for this grant.
What funding is available?
A family can apply for up to 50% of the cost of the program not to exceed $500 per family.
Program costs include:
- Registration for all family members
- Standard accommodations (the Harold Grinspoon Foundation will not pay for any deluxe or luxury accommodations at camp)
How do I apply for funding?
Completed applications must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of camp. Late applications will not be accepted.
Please allow two to three weeks for applications to be reviewed and processed.
If approved for a Jewish Family Camp Grant, a check will be made out to the sponsoring organization and your final invoice will be adjusted accordingly.
